Hi, my name is Alexander Hogrebe (he/him). I grew up in the Northwestern part of Germany and have been intrigued by science ever since we studied biological marco-molecules in chemistry. How, I asked myself, can all of the beautiful biological diversity be built from such – at its core – simple building blocks? This question gripped me, and a couple of years later I found myself on my way to Munich, studying biochemistry at the Technische Universität München. Here I finally found the scientific tools to get a glimpse at the answer I was seeking – but it was still soo shallow. I did not want to spend half my life studying a single human protein, I wanted it all, and fast: enter mass spectrometry. From the first time that I worked with this wonderful technology during my master’s program, I was excited about the possibility of to measuring hundreds of thousands of proteins and peptides on achievable timescales – the promise of the field of proteomics. Ever since, I have been falling deeper and deeper down the proteomics rabbit hole and grew to love all the exciting tools it provides to study a breathtaking variety of biology.
On this website, I hope to share some of my excitement and provide tools for others to make use of proteomics analysis for their own research.
